Update

January 24, 2022

This morning Elexicon Energy crews responded to a power interruption that at its peak, affected approximately 18,000 customers in Belleville.

The outage was caused by a fault at one of Hydro One’s transformer stations and a problem at Elexicon’s Harder substation.  Elexicon crews have isolated the Harder substation to bring back electricity to customers and full power was restored by 9PM.

Restoration efforts were staged carefully and incrementally, as restoring power to too many customers too quickly would have overloaded the system given the cold temperatures and high-energy demands. A phenomenon known as cold load pickup.

Tomorrow morning, Elexicon crews will resume their investigation into the exact cause of the problem at the Harder substation.
