Power Restoration Updates

Updated on April 6, 2025 at 11 a.m.

Elexicon Energy crews, contractors and damage assessors continue their efforts to restore power as quickly and as safely as possible in the Town of Gravenhurst.

The freezing rain caused significant damage to Elexicon’s infrastructure. Damage is so severe in Gravenhurst that Elexicon prompted an emergency declaration.

Gravenhurst Update: Crews have safely restored power to 6,370 customers. Approximately 330 customers remain without power. We are hopeful to have the majority of customers restored by 10 p.m. tonight. Island customers will take longer due to access and infrastructure damage, likely by end of day April 13, 2025.

Beaverton Update: All power in the community has been restored. Any customers still without power may require the services of a Licensed Electrical Contractor and ESA approval before power can be safely restored (see below).

Cannington Update: All power in the community has been restored. Any customers still without power may require the services of a Licensed Electrical Contractor and ESA approval before power can be safely restored (see below).

Crews are working in very challenging and hazardous conditions. Their safety as well as the public safety is our top priority.

We understand this is an extremely difficult time for customers still without power. We sincerely thank our customers for their patience and understanding as we work to restore power, safely.

Getting Repairs Done

  1. Do not try to repair this equipment yourself. Stay back to avoid the risk of shock, electrocution or fire. Power may only be partially interrupted and there may be a risk of shock hazards present, even if it does not appear to be on based on lights or appliances.
  2. Contact a Licensed Electrical Contractor to make repairs.
  3. Once you have hired a Licensed Electrical Contractor:
    + The contractor will file for a notification of work (permit) with the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) so there is a record of the work;
    + The contractor must request a “disconnection” from Elexicon Energy if they are working on the meter base or service mast;
    + The contractor will complete the work and notify the ESA;
    + An ESA Inspector will confirm the power can be reconnected, issue you an ESA reconnect permit, which you need to send to Elexicon Energy (via dservice@elexiconenergy.com) for reconnection; and
    + Elexicon Energy will reconnect the service as quickly as possible. Please note: someone needs to be at the property for the reconnection.
  4. Ask your Licensed Electrical Contractor for a copy of the ESA Certificate of
    Acceptance for your records and insurance purposes.

Visit the ESA’s website for more information.
