News Release

January 6, 2021

AJAX, ON — January 6, 2021 – Elexicon Energy has introduced new electricity delivery rates, effective January 1, 2021. In addition to marking an important milestone following the merger of former Veridian Connections and Whitby Hydro Electric Corporation, the changes allow Elexicon Energy to remain efficient while providing customers with reliable and affordable energy services

January 1 electricity rates

The Ontario Government announced electricity prices will be held at the off-peak rate of 8.5¢/kWh for all residential, small business and farm customers who pay regulated rates on Time-of-Use (TOU) and Tiered pricing structures from January 1 to January 28, 2021. The new fixed rate will be available seven days per week, 24 hours per day during this period.

When the off-peak rate of 8.5¢/kWh expires, households and small businesses under TOU and Tiered pricing structures will pay the winter electricity rates set by the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) on December 15, 2020.

New COVID-19 Energy Assistance Program eligibility

The Ontario Government announced new eligibility for the COVID-19 Energy Assistance Program (CEAP). Any Elexicon Energy residential, small business or registered charity customer with an overdue electricity or natural gas bill will now be eligible to apply. A residential customer can receive up to $750 to help cover their electricity bill, and small businesses or charities can receive up to $1,500. Newly eligible customers can apply for these enhanced benefits starting in January 2021.

Your price plan

Eligible residential and small business customers on the Regulated Price Plan still have the option of choosing between TOU or Tiered pricing structures. Learn more about how to choose the electricity pricing that best suits your household, lifestyle or business.

Earlier this year, Elexicon Energy deferred its regularly scheduled May 1, 2020 rate changes for the Veridian Rate Zone until January 1, 2021 to support customers through the COVID-19 pandemic. Rate changes for the Whitby Rate Zone were scheduled for January 1, 2021.

Delivery represents the costs of bringing electricity to your home or business, including building and maintaining the overhead and underground distribution networks. The OEB has approved changes to Elexicon Energy’s delivery rates, effective January 1, 2021. Customers in the former Veridian Rate Zone will notice an average increase of 37 cents per month (or 0.25%) and those in the former Whitby Rate Zone will notice an average decrease of $2.05 per month (or 1.33%), based on an average consumption of 750 kWh/month.
