AJAX, ON — March 25, 2024 – Elexicon Energy (Elexicon) has been awarded the Electricity Distributors Association’s (EDA) Innovation Excellence Award for its groundbreaking BESS-STATCOM solution. This technology addresses dynamic voltage control challenges for utilities and large customers, ensuring reliable power for critical industries.

Presented last week at the EDA’s annual awards gala, the recognition marks Elexicon’s third consecutive year of being honoured by the EDA. Last year, the company received the Sustainability Excellence Award and in 2023 received the Public Electrical Safety Award.
“Since May 2023, Elexicon has collaborated with Western University to research Battery Energy Storage Systems as a cost-effective alternative to traditional STATCOM technology,” said Lincoln Frost-Hunt, Vice President of Digital and Innovation. “The BESS-STATCOM solution is a game-changer for power stability, reducing costs, improving efficiency, and minimizing downtime for critical industries such as mining and automotive.”
EDA Board Chair, Janice McMichael-Dennis, emphasized the sector’s role in Ontario’s evolving energy landscape. “We are experiencing an era of unprecedented change and growth,” said McMichael-Dennis. “Our members are stepping up to modernize infrastructure and prepare for a projected 75 per cent increase in electricity demand by 2050. The exceptional work recognized today is setting the foundation for the future.”
