Potential Substation in Brooklin

The Town of Whitby is one of Ontario’s fastest growing communities. With this rapid growth comes an increased demand for electricity. Elexicon Energy is currently investigating a potential site for a new substation in Brooklin.

Elexicon is committed to providing safe and reliable power to communities in our service territory as they grow. This potential substation is being considered to be located at 150 Winchester Ave. W. in Brooklin and would support the construction of approximately 5,000 new homes in the community. The substation will also help to deliver on Whitby Town Council’s municipal housing pledge to support the development of 18,000 provincially mandated homes by 2031. It would also support increased reliability for customers located nearby.

Next Steps

Elexicon has secured a contractor, who will be onsite beginning August 5, to conduct a Site Feasibility Study to determine the suitability of the land for a substation. Residents will notice work in the area periodically in August.

If the site is deemed appropriate to house a substation, Whitby Council will consider the sale of the land to Elexicon. Community engagement would be part of this potential land sale process.

More information will be provided as the initiative progresses.
